MISSION
To empower families and build resiliency through educational programs and services across the lifespan.

VISION
All members of our community will have equitable opportunities for lifelong success.

A History of Excellence

Learning Empowered has a long history in our community. It was founded in 1975 as UMCM Suncoast (United Methodist Community Outreach Ministries) by the United Methodist Church to address the unmet needs of the local community in St. Petersburg.

In 2019, we knew it was time to evolve as an organization. After an exhaustive and thoughtful process, we became Learning Empowered! An organization dedicated to using the inherent intelligence, passion, and drive in our clients and supporters to change the world.

  • Early Learning

Working with young children is the bedrock of our organization. It is where we started. We understand the importance of early childhood education for lifelong learning and learning abilities.

Our four Academies for Early Learning have a holistic approach to early childhood education offering support systems and wrap-around services to the entire family.

Each academy has a unique culture and mission. Our Children of the World Preschool is designed specifically to enable the children of recent immigrants and refugees to learn the English language, develop social skills and learn American culture through the use of creative curriculum.

  • Citizenship: Integrated Learning ESOL/ESL, Citizenship, Refugee Support

Our adult focused programming supports families with naturalization programs including citizenship classes, legal supports and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) classes. We provide an array of services to help families coming into our community from around the globe. Through donor support and grants, these programs assist participants in achieving the American Dream and becoming part of the fabric of our community.

  • Ready to Rent Breaking down barriers. Overcoming obstacles.

Ready to Rent is a six-week class that gives people the tools to succeed in the rental market. We cover topics like:

How do I communicate with landlords? • How do I find a rental I can afford and make a budget that works? • What can I do to repair my credit? • What if I have an eviction on my record?
